A LaStone treatment uses heated and cooled stone to penetrate muscles, loosen spasms, and create a feeling of serenity, peace and relaxation. On a physical level, the use of the stones allows me to work more deeply than I can with just my hands. The biggest therapeutic benefit of the treatment comes from alternating temperatures between heated basalt stones and cooled marble stones. This creates "vascular gymnastics" which speeds healing and increases detoxification. Each stroke with a stone is the equivalent of five strokes with my hands. On a mental and spiritual level, alternating between heated and cooled stones induces a deep sense of relaxation. Some people have reported feeling "nurtured" or "cradled". It is a feeling of being safe and connected to the earth. |
The treatment is done with stones that can range from 32-140 degrees. While these temperatures are tolerable for most people, you need to let me know at any point during the treatment if you feel pain or burning, so that I can adjust the temperatures of the stones accordingly. |
Because of the temperatures used, the treatment increases circulation and will cause your body to detoxify and flush out un-needed toxins and wastes. This may continue for 24-72 hours after the treatment. It is important to drink a lot of water during this period. You will feel better and you will get a better benefit from the treatment if you do so. |

Lastly, a LaStone treatment is also a hot oil treatment and as such it requires the use of more oil than a traditional massage. Much of this oil will be absorbed by your skin, but there may be some leftover. You will want to bring comfortable clothing, such as sweats and a t-shirt, so that your nice clothes do not get any excess oil on them. If you request, I can remove some of the excess oil with alcohol at the conclusion of the treatment. If you do find that oil has gotten on your clothing, pretreat and wash in the hottest water possible. I also recommend soaking the garment in the hot water and detergent for 10-15 minutes prior to washing.More information about LaStone Therapy can be found on their website at: www.LastoneTherapy.com |
