What type of massage do you do?

I am a professional massage therapist, specializing in therapeutic massage for relief from chronic pain and injury. I specialize in hot stone massage and LaStone Therapy becuase of the profound therapeutic benefits of this modality. I do not charge any more for a hot stone massage than I do for a regular massage, and I incorporate the stones into most treatment sessions. My style of massage is very diverse, ranging from a light, swedish style massage to deep tissue work for pain relief and injury rehabilitation. I have clients of all ages, from young children to seniors who each prefer a slightly different style of massage. I believe that each person is an individual, and as such, should have a massage tailored to their individual needs. For more information, here is a description of the services that I offer.

Please describe a typical massage session?

Before your session, we will sit down together to determine goals for the treatment. If this is your first session, I will have you fill out a health history form and we will go over it to make sure that there are no contraindications to treatment. Before each session, we will take time to check in because it is very important to me that you get what you need from the session each and every time.

During the session, I will use warmed stones on and around your body to help you to relax and help your muscles to release. I may also use cooled marble stones in places of excess tension or injury because of the additional healing benefits of using heated and cooled stones together. If at any time during the session one of the stones is too hot, please let me know immediately. The stones should feel pleasant and not like they are burning.

You will be fully draped and coverred during the session with the exception of the area that I am working on.

I specialize in deep tissue massage, but can always adjust the pressure of the strokes to meet your comforts level. If any pressure that I am using is too much, please let me know immediately.

At the end of your session, the stones will be removed and you will be left to relax and to dress. It is very important after a stone massage session to drink plenty of water (at least 8-10 8 oz. glasses a day) for the next few days. Stone massage has a profound detoxifying effect on the body and drinking enough water will help you to get the most out of your treatment.

What times of the day do you do massage?

I offer massage at many different times of the day. No matter what your schedule looks like, it is likely that I can fit you into mine! To view my schedule or to book an appointment online, click here.

Will I be covered during the massage?

Yes, you will be fully covered during the massage with a sheet and blanket. I only uncover the area of your body that I am working on at that time.

How much clothing do I take off to receive a massage?

Generally speaking, most people undress down to their underwear for a massage (including taking off the bra for women.) I always advise new clients to undress down to their comfort level. If taking off clothing is a concern for you, perhaps a reflexology treatment would be a better choice.

How is the massage supposed to feel?

In my opinion, the "No pain, no gain" philosophy is not beneficial, and can sometimes be harmful when applied to massage.. Massage therapy is not supposed to be painful. There is a difference between "good hurt" and "bad hurt". A massage, when done properly, is supposed feel strong but not uncomfortable.

How often should I get a massage?

For maintenance of good health, a massage every 2-4 weeks is appropriate (more frequently if desired).

If you are seeking relief from a specific physical condition, I recommend receiving massage every 1-2 weeks, depending on the severity of the condition. Once the condition has improved, a maintenance schedule (as noted above) should be maintained.
